Rough Seas

Have you ever been on a cruise? I’ve been on a few. I go on a New Kids on the Block cruise every year. My 14yo internal kid loves to be stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean with my teenage heart-throbs.

Over spring break I decided to take my kids on a cruise to the Carribean. I imagined them enjoying the kids and teen club while I drank pina coladas by the pool. I imagined taking them to the Hibachi restaurant and entertainment at night. My expectations were high to make this the best vacation of our life. Unfortunately shortly after I booked the cruise, I was notified that the kids club had been closed due to COVID19. It was too late to cancel and they gave us a free pass to the arcade to make-up for the fact that I could kiss my pina coladas by the pool goodbye. Mama wasn’t happy and suddenly the excitement about being on the cruise with my 2 loves was seeming more like I was going to be on the hook to entertain them for 10 DAYS!

Have you ever been on a cruise that sails out of NYC? Nope? Neither had I. I had no idea that ship gets tossed from side to side and that the smooth sail I was expecting wasn’t going to happen. Literally night 2 on the cruise I was so sick that we couldn’t make it to the Habachi dinner I reserved. So instead me and my kids stayed in our cabin, ordered room service, and watched a movie together. If I ask either of my kids what their favorite part of the cruise was, they would say ordering room service and watching movies together. That was more special to them than anything else we did the whole week!

So why am I telling you about my cruise on my coaching website? What kind of cruise are you on in your business? Is the boat being tossed around and you feel sick or are you ordering room service and watching movies? Sometimes when you feel overwhelmed or not happy it can feel like you don’t have a choice, but you always do. Just because you think that you must take insurance, it doesn’t mean you do. What will make your experience in your business the best it possibly can be? In the same way I could have been miserable and made my kids miserable for 10 days, we had the most fun we could have under the circumstances. And we caught a glimpse of a baby hammerhead shark on the coast of Tortola as our ship was leaving after a day there. Had we stayed in, we would have never caught this National Geographic in real life moment.

So, my loves, I want you to think of what you can do now to make your business the best you possibly can under the circumstances? Can you be thankful you have clients that will stay with you even though you left insurance panels or will you focus on the ones that left? Can you notice how dedicated your clients are to making changes in their lives or will you be hard on yourself about the lack of progress from the clients who left? You are not for everyone, just like maybe a cruise isn’t a good option for me to go on with my kids. But, guess what? I take them to all kinds of places and vacations they love and those memories will live with them forever. Ironically it’s the simple times we have just been together that mean so much to us. I’ll keep the cruise for my New Kids on the Block adventures, where I know I’m guaranteed a great time. Just like you will stick with your ideal clients who are dedicated and invested in progress so you can keep claiming a part in their amazing progress.

Set yourself up for success.
